The appointments, decisions and jobs for each stage of pregnancy. Screening tests are your choice, and schedules differ by country, so follow your maternity team's advice.

First trimester

• Book your first antenatal or prenatal appointment
• Get recommended pregnancy supplements
• Book dating scan or first ultrasound
• Ask about screening tests
• Go through your medicines with your midwife or doctor
• Book recommended blood tests

Second trimester

• Book the mid-pregnancy scan
• Give your employer the required pregnancy notice
• Check maternity or parental leave and pay
• Book antenatal classes
• Start the baby shopping list

Third trimester

• Write down your birth preferences
• Pack the hospital bag
• Fit the car seat
• Plan the route to hospital
• Arrange childcare for older children during the birth
• Pre-register at the hospital if needed

Admin

• Check family benefits
• Update health insurance if needed
• Choose a doctor or paediatrician for the baby

The home

• Set up a safe sleep space
• Batch cook meals for after the birth
