Free getting rabbits

Rabbits need company, shelter and permanent space to run, dig and explore. Plan for a pair that get on, and an enclosure of at least 3m by 2m by 1m high for two average-sized rabbits. A hutch alone is not enough.

• Register with a vet who sees rabbits
• Ask the vet about vaccinations
• Arrange neutering
• Check teeth and nails
• Check appetite and droppings every day
• Check for flystrike in warm weather

Handling

• Plan safe introductions between rabbits
• Learn how to pick them up safely
• Supervise children

Daily care

• Fresh hay and water
• Clean the litter tray
• Daily exercise and enrichment
• Toys to chew
