Add a child and choose what they can see
When a child joins your household, you choose which parts of Petal Home they can see and change. You can change their access at any time.
Only an admin can do this. The child joins with your invite code first. See Invite your family.
Open their request
Tap the Petal button in the middle of the bottom bar, then Settings, then Members. Under Pending requests, tap Accept next to their name. You may also see a banner on Home with Review.
A join request shows Accept and a round ✕. The ✕ asks you to confirm, then declines it.
Choose Child
On the Accept sheet, pick Child: You choose what they can see.
Choose what they can see
Under What can they see?, set each area to Hidden, View or Edit: Meals, Groceries ("The shopping list and pantry"), Lists (lists you make, like packing or presents), Reminders, Plan, Household, Countdowns and Outgoings. The list scrolls, so scroll to see all eight. Outgoings starts as Hidden. Everything else starts as Edit. In the US, Outgoings is called Bills.
Private space
Leave Private space on to give them a private space for their own lists, reminders, countdowns, plans, Outgoings and Household info. It says "Private things only they can see", with an i button for more. Turn it off, and everything they add is shared with the household.
Accept
Tap Accept as child. Their access applies as soon as they join.
Good to know
- To change it later, go to Members and tap Manage what … can see & do on their row. Changes save as you tap, and their phone catches up the next time they open Petal Home.
- What's inside a child's private space is only visible to them, not even to you.
- Under-18s can't buy Premium or create a household. When an adult in the household has Premium, it covers them too.
- To make someone already in the household a child, tap their role label in Members and choose Child. The child settings then apply.
- An area you hide stays on the child's screen, locked, and says "Turned off for you". Tapping it explains. A child set to View sees "You have view-only access. Ask an admin or adult if you need to change this."
- A child with Reminders hidden gets no household or plan reminders, even ones assigned to them.
- A child set to View can still add private things if Private space is on. A child can't see the invite code.
